Dental care is an important part of pet health that is often overlooked. Dental disease can lead to disease in other locations of the body, in addition to causing discomfort for the pet. And our pet's bad breath can be unpleasant for everyone!
Starting at the first puppy and kitten visits, we will discuss dental care with you. Early preventative care helps keep your pet's teeth and gums healthy. A variety of products and diets are available for dental care.
Eventually all pets need a dental cleaning. This is done under anesthesia with a registered veterinary technician performing the cleaning. Any additional procedures such as extractions are performed by the veterinarian. All dental patients are considered surgery patients and are treated as such, with pre-anesthetic blood work, Sevoflurane gas anesthesia, and pain medication as needed. Special treatments for gingivitis and periodontal disease are available.
